I grew up with stories in which the impossible could happen in the midst of everyday life, without anyone needing to explain it. These stories taught me not to limit reality to what we already know; sometimes, to live, we need to leave room for things we cannot understand. Perhaps this is why I am drawn to people and to the ways they find to live. Each person ties something to their life and gives it meaning something that may seem small or insignificant to someone else, yet can mean everything to them. I am interested in that point where the reality of a life becomes intertwined with what a person needs in order to go on living. Cinema, for me, is a way of seeing this entanglement. It allows me to stay close to reality while leaving room for something beyond what I know to enter it. I want to look at life closely enough to see its pain, while leaving enough space for it to remain possible to live in.
